“I’m a little bit of an asshole, but the world needs assholes. Otherwise where would shit go.”

Perks of having Sky Cinema is movies on tap! Recently I decided to watch, Downsizing, directed by Alexander Payne.

Honesty being the best policy; this was a pretty disappointing movie. It started off intriguing and captured my attention. The concept of shrinking down to a miniature, five inches tall, person was captivating.

The story was about shrinking the population to conserve resources and save the planet; allowing everyone to live a better life.

Once Matt Damon, the lead role in the film, shrunk down and ventured into his new life; was where the movie dipped. At first seeing his new life was interesting however, quickly it became despondent. Matt Damon’s character was unhappy with his new life; it wasn’t what he had imagined, he missed his old life. But couldn’t go back.

The ending was the worst part of the movie. Very anticlimactic; it was like the movie had stopped mid scene. As the viewer, you wanted more. Not in the sense of it finished on a cliffhanger or thinking that there would be a sequel. The movie left you confused and questioning “is that it?”

Wouldn’t recommend this film. Feel free to leave me a comment telling me your thoughts on the film.
