I unashamedly admit…this romcom, The DUFF, is a real favourite of mine. It’s cheesy, romantic, funny, relatable and just an all round good film to watch. This film really brings out the little teenage girl in me to be honest.

The movie is set in a high school; where popularity is the be all and end all. For those who are not so popular the high school life sucks and these people are referred to as a DUFF. The DUFF’s are used for guys/girls to gain information or to find a way to talk to their crushes. A DUFF is known as the Designated Ugly Fat Friend; not necessarily meaning the person in question is ugly and fat. Just they are the more approachable and easier to chat to than the people’s crushes (usually popular’s).

Mae Whitman, who plays Bianca the lead role in the movie, discovers that she, herself is in fact known, as a DUFF by many of her peers. Bianca is furious at this fact, but she soon realises that everyone is someone’s DUFF; and therefore, Bianca conquests to change the perception of the DUFF concept.

To do this she acquires the help of her childhood friend, Wesley; played by Robbie Amell. Bianca aims to “unduff” herself and gain a date with her crush; of course with Wesley’s help. However, in return Bianca must help Wesley study and pass one of his classes.

This is one of my favourite parts of the movie; Wesley helping Bianca transform her look. I won’t tell you why, it’ll spoil the movie for you. My second favourite part is the ending and yet again I’m not going to spoil The DUFF for you; you just need to watch it and find out!
Some may find this movie immature, too cliché and cheesy. Frankly, I just love this film too much to care! But also, this film can empower, and encourage people to be individual and own it. So get watching The DUFF, now!
